About this course:
In this course, you will learn about the specific applications and challenges of battery storage technologies. It examines various battery technologies, their applications at grid-scale and behind-the-meter, as well as the emerging trends in off-grid and mobility applications

Learning Outcomes:

  • Differentiate between families of storage technologies and describe their main technical characteristics.
  • Explain the basic functioning and technical requirements of Li-ion, flow battery, and lead-acid technologies.
  • Describe the grid-scale application of battery storage and identify the services they can perform.
  • Explain the main purposes, barriers, and drivers behind the development and application of batteries for grid-scale use.
  • Explain the role and added value of behind-the-meter battery storage for end-users, including technical requirements and barriers.
  • Identify uses, technical requirements, and barriers for battery storage in off-grid areas.
  • Describe the application and technical requirements of battery storage in the mobility sector, including its role in the transport industry.
  • Recall trends and potential roles of batteries in the transport industry and grid applications.
